The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 11, 2017 to June 17, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, June 11th
At 11:38 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, and Monrovia Fire Department
responded to the intersection of El Monte Avenue and West Naomi Avenue on a vehicle into a structure. Upon arrival, fire crews found an overturned vehicle that had collided into a residence. The vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed through a block wall and into the rear yard of a residence, and came to rest against a wall. Fire crews quickly extricated the critically injured lone occupant of the vehicle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, full spinal immobilization, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and CPR. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment. The home was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
Monday, June 12th
At 12:28 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 600 block of West Duarte Road on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a juvenile female who had knocked out a tooth, after falling face-first onto the ground, during a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, June 13th
At 6:37 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1000 block of Alta Vista Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male experiencing a cardiac dysrhythmia. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, June 14th
At 1:32 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 2200 block of North Highland Oaks Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male unconscious. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, administration of glucose due to low blood sugar levels, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, June 15th
At 12:21 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 200 block of East Foothill Boulevard on a report of smoke inside a structure. Upon arrival, fire personnel did not observe any smoke showing from the street; however, occupants had evacuated from the structure. Employees at the location stated a light ballast in an office had sparked and began to smoke. Investigation revealed a light ballast with signs of failure but lacking heat signatures around the equipment. Fire personnel assisted in de-energizing the office containing the light ballast and advised the occupant to have the failed equipment repaired. The scene was released to the location’s manager.
Friday, June 16th
At 9:13 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 700 block of South Old Ranch Road on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 61-year-old female experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, neurological assessment, intravenous therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, June 17th
At 6:11 p.m., Engine 106 and Recue Ambulance 106 responded to the 100 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 33-year-old female in an altered level of consciousness after consuming an excessive amount of alcoholic beverages. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 52 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 290 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
