Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report-week of July 31, 2016 to August 6, 2016

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 31, 2016 to August 6, 2016. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, July 31st

 At 9:45 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call at the intersection of North Santa Anita Avenue and Yorkshire Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an 83-year-old female who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead electrocardiogram and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. The Arcadia Police Department also responded to the scene.




Monday, August 1st

 At 11:00 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 47-year-old female in a doctor’s office experiencing heart palpitations. Paramedics performed advanced life support on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, August 2nd

 At 6:31 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of West Wistaria Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an 89-year-old female complaining of an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, August 3rd

 At 6:30 p.m., Engine 706 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at Methodist Hospital of Southern California, 300 West Huntington Drive. Fire crews learned that after evaluating a 23-year old male, hospital staff determined he required transfer to a trauma center. Paramedics took over patient care and transported him to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, August 4th

 At 10:45 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of South Santa Anita Avenue and East Le Roy Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find Arcadia Police Department officers on scene with a 63-year-old male complaining of an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Valley Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, August 5th

 At 10:58 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 83-year-old male complaining of weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, August 6th

  1.   At 4:39 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 39-year-old male not breathing and without a pulse. Multiple traumas were observed on the patient. Paramedics followed local protocol and pronounced the patient deceased at the scene. The scene was turned over to the Arcadia Police Department for investigation.

  2.   Nine members of the Arcadia Fire Department were welcomed back home after a nine-day deployment to Central California to assist with the Soberanes Fire.

Volunteer Weekly Activity Report

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 28 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 412 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
