Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report -week of July 29 – August 4, 2018

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 29 – August 4, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, July 29th

At 6:50 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a fire alarm in the 1100 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a fire sprinkler activation inside of a walk-in freezer. No immediate reason for the activation was noted. The system was shut off and water was removed from the freezer. Investigation determined the sprinkler head was accidentally activated while an employee was cleaning in the area. The Los Angeles County Health Department responded and deemed the area and contents had remained at safe temperature levels.

Monday, July 30th

At 4:01 p.m., Monrovia Engine 102 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 11700 block of East Clark Street. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 59-year- old male experiencing a sudden onset of left-sided weakness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, July 31st

At 1:09 p.m., Engine 107 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 101 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of North Whispering Oaks Drive. Fire crews arrived to find 2- year-old toddler in an altered level of consciousness after falling to from a counter to the floor. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, full spinal immobilization, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, August 1st

At 9:34 a.m., Engine 107 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of Forest Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male experiencing general weakness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, August 2nd

At 3:40 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 67-year-old female with uncontrolled bleeding from a medical device. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, intravenous access, and bandaging for bleeding. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, August 3rd

At 2:37 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 106, and Air Light Unit 106 responded with Pasadena Fire Department on a Second Alarm house fire in the 400 block of Oak Avenue, Pasadena. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure. Arcadia Fire personnel assisted with rehydrating and cooling firefighters after assignment. In addition, Arcadia personnel filled air bottles and assisted with fire investigation.

Saturday, August 4th

At 7:40 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 80-year-old female complaining of head pain after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 32 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 338 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.




Strike Team Activity

OES Engine 343, as part of Strike Team 1821A, continued to be assigned to the Carr Incident in Redding, California. Crews have been performing a variety of tasks including perimeter control, structure defense, and mop-up operations.

Engine 105, as part of Strike Team 1204A, was released from the Cranston Incident in Riverside County on Sunday, July 29th, and reassigned to the Mendocino Complex in Ukiah, California. Crews have been assisting with perimeter control and mop-up operations.
