Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report – week of July 22 – July 28, 2018

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 22 – July 28, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, July 22nd

At 4:25 p.m., Engine 107, Truck 105,

Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105, along with units from Sierra Madre Fire Department responded to a traffic accident with persons trapped at the intersection of North Santa Anita Avenue and Grandview Avenue. Units arrived to find two male occupants trapped in a vehicle and a power pole that had been knocked down. Fire crews used the Jaws of Life to remove the occupants. Both patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center in critical condition. Southern California Edison representatives responded to repair the downed power lines.

Monday, July 23rd

At 6:52 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Forest Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 60-year-old patient experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, July 24th

At 8:12 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a fire alarm at a four-story hotel in

the 00 block of North Second Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find water dripping through the lobby ceiling. Investigation found an activated fire sprinkler head on the third floor. The cause was deemed accidental by a hotel guest. Fire crews immediately shut down the sprinkler system and began water removal procedures with a water vacuum. The fire alarm was silenced and a repair technician responded to the scene.

Wednesday, July 25th

At 5:48 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Robbins Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a female patient experiencing severe abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Thursday, July 26th

At 9:55 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 100 block of Altern Street. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing head pain after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full cervical immobilization, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, July 27th

At 4:39 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of Alice Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 65-year-old male who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, July 28th

At 6:58 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a downed bicyclist at the intersection of East Camino Real Avenue and South Fourth Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 65-year-old female who had fallen while riding her bike. An assessment determined she had a broken femur. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, applying a traction splint to the broken extremity, intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 12 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 351 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.




Strike Team Activity

At 11:41 a.m., on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, due to predicted fire weather concerns, OES Engine 343 was pre-deployed to Santa Barbara County as part of Strike Team 1821A.

At 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 26, 2018, the strike team was reassigned to the Carr Incident in Redding, California. Crews have been performing structure defense and mop-up operations.

At 3:30 a.m., on Thursday, July 26, 2018, Engine 106 was dispatched, as part of Strike Team 1204A, to the Cranston Incident in Riverside County. Crews have been assisting with perimeter control and mop-up operations.
