The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 1 – July 7, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, July 1st
At 6:20 p.m., Engine 106, Engine
107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 assisted the Pasadena Fire Department with a residential structure fire in the 3700 block of East Ranch T op Road, Pasadena. Fire crews arrived to find a fully involved attached garage with two vehicles on fire threatening to engulf the house. The garage contained several lithium batteries that began exploding and complicated extinguishment. Fire crews made an aggressive direct attack holding the fire to the garage and its contents. The occupants and their animals had safely escaped prior to fire department arrival.
Monday, July 2nd
At 8:42 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a person choking medical call in the 1200 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 64-year-old male who had just cleared his own airway obstruction but continued experiencing throat pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, July 3rd
At 4:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 800 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 64-year-old male experiencing anxiety and having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, July 4th
At 8:24 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 62-year-old female feeling dizzy and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, neurological assessment, intravenous therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, July 5th
At 5:42 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a person unconscious and unresponsive medical call in the 400 block of East Norman Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find an elderly female in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including CPR, advanced airway placement, oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, cardiac defibrillation, intravenous access, and medication therapy. Return of spontaneous circulation was successfully achieved in the field and the patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, July 6th
At 8:21 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 53-year-old female in an altered level of consciousness after falling from a horse. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, July 7th
At 3:46 p.m., Engine 106 was dispatched, as part of a fourth alarm assignment, to a brush fire in the city of Burbank.
Engine 106 worked with neighboring agencies on one of the flanks of the fire and put in a progressive hose lay to control the spread of the fire and begin mop-up operations.
Strike Team Activity
On July 7th, Engine 107 was dispatched, as part of Strike Team 1205A, to the Holiday Fire in Goleta, California. Engine 107 performed mop-up operations during their shift and were released on July 8th.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 325 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 28 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
