Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report week of January 1, 2017 to January 7, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 1, 2017 to January 7, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, January 1st

 At 5:22 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106, responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 35-year-old male having suicidal thoughts. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported him to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, January 2nd

 At 9:35 a.m., Battalion 105, Truck 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, and Rescue Ambulance 105, along with units from Sierra Madre and Los Angeles Fire Departments, responded to the 100 block of West Grandview in the city of Sierra Madre on a structure fie. Upon arrival, fire crews found light smoke coming from the front of the structure. Arcadia fire personnel assisted with incident command, secondary search, ventilation, overhaul and utilities. The fire was contained to the room of origin and fire crews were released with no injuries. The cause of the fire was combustible materials igniting after being stored too closely to an activated wall heater.

Tuesday, January 3rd

 At 2:56 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the intersection of West Camino Real Avenue and El Monte Avenue on a bicyclist down. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 59-year-old male with a possible head injury after falling off his bicycle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures at the scene including oxygen therapy, intravenous fluid therapy, cardiac monitoring, and spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, January 4th

 At 1:11 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1000 block of North Don Alvarado Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a male patient with back pain after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, January 5th

 At 5:31 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of East Foothill Boulevard on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 29-year-old male with head pain after being struck in the head while trying to stop a robbery. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, January 6th

 At 8:25 a.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 and Sierra Madre Engine 41 responded to the 200 block of North Ranch Road in the City of Sierra Madre on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 33-year-old male in traumatic full arrest after falling approximately 60 feet from a tree. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including CPR and intravenous access. The patient was pronounced deceased by protocol and was not transported to a hospital.

Saturday, January 7th

 At 8:38 p.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to the 300 block of East Huntington Drive on a fire alarm. Fire crews arrived to find no fire but a broken sprinkler head in a restroom causing flooding to the affected area. The fire sprinkler water system was shut down and a water vacuum was used to remove the water.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 156 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
