The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 7, 2016 to August 13, 2016. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, August 7th
At 1:16 p.m., Engine 107, Monrovia Fire and Rescue Squad 101, and Schaeffer Ambulance responded to a medical assist in the 1700 block of Wilson Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male suffering from general weakness following a syncopal episode. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, sugar testing, and fluid replacement. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, August 8th
At 5:43 p.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue call in 100 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene and found one person trapped inside a stalled elevator. Fire personnel shut off power to the elevator allowing them to force open the elevator door and free the occupant.
Tuesday, August 9th
At 7:36 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of Genoa Street. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 35-year-old male suffering from head pain and a two inch laceration on his face, after falling off a skateboard. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, August 10th
At 2:24 p.m., Engine 107 responded to an animal rescue call in the 900 block of Singingwood Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews were met by the California Department of Fish and Game who requested assistance in lowering a black bear out of a tree. Once the bear was sedated and coaxed out of the tree he was carried to the game warden’s vehicle by fire personnel and returned to the mountains.
Thursday, August 11th
At 7:22 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to an auto versus pedestrian traffic collision at the intersection of West Camino Real Avenue and Melanie Lane. Fire personnel arrived to find Arcadia Police Department officers on scene with a seriously injured 73-year-old male. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, August 12th
At 8:22 a.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Arcadia Police responded to an auto versus bicyclist traffic collision in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 83-year-old male experiencing an altered level of consciousness after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, August 13th
At 10:10 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2300 block of South Fifth Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 80-year-old female complaining of abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Weekly Activity Report
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 442 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
