The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 26 – September 1, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, August 26th
At 10:16 a.m., Truck 105 responded to a residential flood call in the 800 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, fire units found water coming from the structure. A hot water heater tank drain had broken releasing water into the garage and living room areas. Personnel shut off water to the building and used a water vacuum to remove standing water. The incident was released to the homeowner for additional cleanup and moisture removal.
Monday, August 27th
At 1:25 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 52-year-old hyperglycemic male experiencing nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and medication therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, August 28th
At 7:01 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 00 block of West Winnie Way. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 50-year-old female experiencing abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, August 29th
At 9:52 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2000 block of Vista Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 73-year-old female experiencing lower back and leg pain for the last six weeks. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, August 30th
At 6:06 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105 and Battalion 105 responded to a smoke in a structure call in the 100 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke emitting from an apartment. Investigation revealed no fire but a burnt plastic container in a microwave oven. Fire personnel utilized a smoke ejector to remove the smoke from the home. The incident was released to the resident.
Friday, August 31st
At 10:28 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 107, Engine 106 and Battalion 105 responded to an odor of natural gas call at a residence in the 400 block of East Colorado Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire units found the residents outside and a strong odor of natural gas near the garage. Fire personnel turned off the gas to the entire structure and requested response from the Gas Company. In addition, crews ventilated the structure of any remaining natural gas. The incident was released to the occupants.
Saturday, September 1st
At 3:51 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 68-year-old female experiencing severe abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 108 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 348 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
