The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 1 – April 7, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, April 1st
At 1:26 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Urban Search and Rescue 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 200 block of North First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 46-year-old male critically injured after jumping in front of, and being struck by, a moving train. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, April 2nd
At 5:38 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of South Southview Road. Upon arrival, fire crews found an elderly male experiencing a high level of back pain after a recent surgery. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, April 3rd
At 9:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, April 4th
At 7:15 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1700 block of Highland Oaks Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly person exhibiting symptoms of a possible stroke. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, intravenous access, and medications. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, April 5th
At 9:50 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 70-year-old male having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, administration of cardiac medications, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, April 6th
At 10:23 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of San Vicente Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, April 7th
At 10:30 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a colony of bees in the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an active bee swarm high above in a tree. The area was secured with fire line tape and the bees eventually dispersed.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 32 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 349 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
