The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 25 – March 3, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, February 25th
At 11:30 a.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male with facial swelling after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, February 26th
At 12:46 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist on the westbound 210 Freeway at Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 44-year-old female experiencing nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, February 27th
At 2:41 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 53-year-old male experiencing abdominal pain after being kicked by a horse. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to the trauma center at Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, February 28th
At 6:12 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 5700 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, intravenous access, and medications. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, March 1st
At 12:21 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Arbolada Drive and West Foothill Boulevard. Fire crews arrived to find a patient complaining of pain in multiple areas. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy, cervical spine assessment, immobilization, and pain management. The patient was transported by private ambulance to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, March 2nd
At 4:55 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 50-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness after experiencing trauma to his head and face. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, March 3rd
At 2:45 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Monrovia Engine 102, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105
responded to a traffic collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an overturned vehicle and all persons involved had self-extricated. Paramedics assessed the involved parties; however, all denied treatment and transport to a local hospital.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 36 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 333 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
