Sunday, December 18th
At 3:51 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Battalion 105 along with units from Monrovia and Pasadena Fire Departments responded to a house fire in the 1000 block of South Park Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a single story residence with smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure and the sole occupant standing to the front of the residence. Further investigation revealed a fire in the living room. Fire crews attacked the fire, ventilated the structure, and overhauled its contents. Paramedics assessed the occupant of the structure who declined treatment and transportation to a hospital. Damage to the residence is estimated at $200,000. Arcadia police originally reported the structure fire.
Monday, December 19th
At 1:49 p.m., Engine 107 responded with Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 to a medical assist at the 100 block of North Mountain Trail in the City of Sierra Madre. Fire crews arrived to find a patient pulseless and not breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including CPR, intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, administration of cardiac medications, and oxygen therapy. The patient had Do Not Resuscitate documents on file and, following hospital directive, was pronounced dead at the scene. The scene was released to Sierra Madre Police Department.
Tuesday, December 20th
At 1:10 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call at the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 10-month-old infant with difficulty breathing and possible respiratory infection. The baby’s oxygen saturation was tested and found to be very low. Paramedics administered oxygen on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, December 21st
At 10:28 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the 1700 block of Orangewood Lane on a hazard investigation. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a transformer actively arcing and leaking fluid. Fire personnel evacuated the nearby residents and secured the area. Southern California Edison respond to the location, shut down power to the area, and assumed control of the scene.
Thursday, December 22nd
At 5:23 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1100 block of West Duarte Road on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a female patient having difficulty breathing. Paramedics performed advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, December 23rd
At 9:22 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the intersection of North Baldwin Avenue and Hampton Road. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a two vehicle traffic collision and a 64-year-old male with chest and shoulder pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, intravenous drug therapy, and spinal assessment. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, December 24th
At 7:54 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 82- year-old male complaining of weakness and dizziness, with nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead-electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 72 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 275 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
