Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report September 10, 2017 TO September 16, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 10, 2017 to September 16, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, September 10th

At 3:44 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of East Live Oak Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 49-year-old female experiencing prolonged chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose testing. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, September 11th

At 8:27 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 700 block of South Fifth Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 70-year-old female experiencing an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose testing, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, September 12th

At 12:12 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 along with units from Pasadena Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department, responded to the 500 block of Catalpa Road on a structure fire. Upon arrival, fire units found light smoke coming from a pile of debris near a detached garage. An occupant had extinguished the fire with a garden hose prior to the Fire Departments arrival. Personnel overhauled the area to complete cooling of all burning material, checked for fire extension in nearby structures, and contacted Southern California Edison due to power line damage. The fire was determined to be accidental. The scene was released to SCE and the homeowner.

Wednesday, September 13th

At 12:50 p.m., Engine 106, Pasadena Engine 37, Pasadena Engine 34, Truck 105, Pasadena Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the 600 block of South Sunset Boulevard on a structure fire. Upon arrival, fire units found an active fire in an apartment unit. Fire crews were able to confine the fire to the unit of origin. A Fire Investigator was on scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. The cause remains under investigation. One family was displaced as a result of the fire and was assisted by the American Red Cross.

Thursday, September 14th

At 1:10 p.m., Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded with the Los Angeles County Fire Department to the intersection of Encinitas Avenue and Garibaldi Avenue, Temple City, on a traffic collision with a person trapped. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one patient who had self-extricated. Los Angeles County Fire cancelled assisting Arcadia units and handled the incident on their own.

Friday, September 15th

At 9:54 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 00 block of West Las Tunas Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 79-year-old male who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, September 16th

At 6:14 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded with Monrovia units to the 100 block of East Cypress Avenue, Monrovia, on a structure fire. Fire crews arrived to find a single story single family residence with smoke showing. Further investigation found a well involved kitchen fire. Monrovia units attacked the fire while Arcadia units assisted by searching the residence to confirm all occupants were out and shutting down the utilities. A rapid knock down of the fire was made and no injuries were reported. The fire remains under investigation.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 264 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
