The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 17 – June 23, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, June 17th

At 3:12 p.m., Engine 105, Monrovia Squad 101, and Cole Schaefer ambulance responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 72-year-old male having a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, June 18th

At 7:05 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 74-year-old male experiencing weakness, dizziness, and nausea. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, June 19th

At 11:45 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 personnel responded to a medical assist in the lobby of Fire Station 105, 710 South Santa Anita Avenue. A 46-year-old female transported herself to the location after experiencing abdominal pain throughout the day. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, June 20th

At 11:26 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Leroy Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a female patient experiencing abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, June 21st

At 7:11 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 90-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, June 22nd

At 12:28 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a water flow alarm at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an activated sprinkler head, in a parking garage, that had been accidentally sheared by a large truck. Fire crews shut off the valve to the sprinkler system. A fire sprinkler technician responded to the scene for repairs.

Saturday, June 23rd

At 9:30 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of North Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female in an altered level of consciousness after experiencing a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 383 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 32 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
