Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report October 16 to October 26, 2016

Sunday, October 16th

 At 11:11 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of Floral Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 82-year-old female suffering from an altered mental status. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, October 17th

 At 7:37 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 00 block of West Norman Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 80-year-old female complaining of chest pain and trouble breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, administration of cardiac medications, 12- lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, October 18th

 At 9:12 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of North Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 60-year-old female patient suffering ankle pain after a fall. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including pain management and ankle immobilization. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, October 19th

 At 10:03 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of West Colorado Street. Fire crews arrived to find a 54-year-old male in police custody, and in a combative, agitated state. Further investigation revealed the patient overdosed on a stimulant. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, administration of cardiac medications, 12-lead electro- cardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, October 20th

 At 5:58 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 800 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 76-year-old male suffering severe abdominal pain due to a pre-existing medical condition. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.



Friday, October 21st At 12:43 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 with units from the Monrovia Fire Department responded to a downed power line in the 900 block of North Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one high voltage line down with multiple areas of vegetation and an electrical pole on fire. Fire crews immediately began fire attack on areas with no electrical hazard and contained the fire to the areas of origin. Firefighters were able to protect surrounding structures from damage.

Saturday, October 22nd

 At 12:11 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision in the 500 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic accident with one of the vehicles overturned. The male driver self- extricated prior to fire personnel arrival. Fire crews evaluated the male patient who had no complaints. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene including spinal immobilization evaluation and precaution and cardiac monitoring. The patient refused further treatment and chose not to be transported to a hospital.




Volunteer Weekly Activity Report

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 341 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
