Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report November 6 – 15, 2016

Sunday, November 6th

 At 9:04 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of Colorado Place. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 56-year-old female experiencing abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and medication. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, November 7th

 At 11:41 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue at the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find one person trapped on the third floor in a malfunctioning elevator. The power to the elevator was shut down and an elevator tool was used to pry open the door and free the unharmed occupant. The elevator was tagged out-of- service until it could be properly assessed for operability by an elevator technician.

Tuesday, November 8th

 At 10:04 a.m., Truck 105 responded to investigate a hazard in the 1600 block of La Ramada Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a communications line down in the street. Fire crews secured the lines and removed them from the roadway. The telephone company was notified of the damaged line.

Wednesday, November 9th

 At 5:04 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, and Battalion 105, along with units from Sierra Madre, Pasadena, and Los Angeles County Fire Departments responded to a brush fire in the 700 block of North Sunnyside Avenue in the city of Sierra Madre. Fire crews arrived to find several bushes and trees on fire, in an open field, threatening residences. The cause of the fire was a downed power line. Southern California Edison was notified and responded to the scene. Fire damage was limited to bushes and trees.

Thursday, November 10th

 At 8:05 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 78-year-old female experiencing shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures at the scene including oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and medication. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, November 11th

 At 8:38 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 44-year-male in police detention experiencing a psychiatric episode. Paramedics provided the patient with basic life support measures and transported him to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, November 12th

 At 11:45 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 69-year-old female experiencing a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Weekly Activity Report

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 313 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
