Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report June 25 to July 1, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 25, 2017 to July 1, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, June 25th

 At 3:28 p.m., Engine 106 responded to the Placerita fire incident in Los Angeles County, as part of Strike Team XLC 1205A, in support of the California Master Mutual Aid Agreement. Strike Team XLC 1205A arrived at the incident

and was assigned to suppression efforts. During deployment the strike team provided cell site protection, perimeter control, and mop-up of hot spots. The team was released from the incident at 9:15 p.m.

Monday, June 26th

 At 9:05 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded the 400 block of East Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated 25-year-old female experiencing non-traumatic abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose testing. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.



Tuesday, June 27th

At 1:20 a.m., Engine 107 responded to the Hill fire incident in San Luis Obispo County, as part of Strike Team XLC 1202A. Engine 107 and the rest of the strike team helped to establish control lines and performed mop-up while assigned to the fire. Engine 107 was released from the incident on Thursday June 29, 2017. While returning to Arcadia, Strike Team 1202A was reassigned to a brush fire in Malibu, California. Engine 107 was released from that fire late in the evening and returned to Arcadia at 11:30 p.m.


Strike Team XLC 1202A – Hill Fire in San Luis Obispo County





 At 1:25 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 300 block of East Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 54-year-old male experiencing eye pain described as burning. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including flushing of the eyes with copious amounts of saline fluid, oxygen, and cardiac monitoring. The patient’s condition improved and he refused further treatment and transport to a local hospital.

Wednesday, June 28th

 At 4:36 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the City of Burbank on a multiple alarm brush fire. Engine 107 was assigned to assist companies on one of the flanks of the fire. Fire personnel shuttled equipment up the fire line and assisted with mop-up. Engine 107 was released at 7:30 p.m. and returned to Arcadia.

Thursday, June 29th

 At 5:59 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 600 block of West Duarte Road on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 67-year-old male having an allergic reaction to medication. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, June 30th

 At 5:22 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of Eldorado Street on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 69-year-old female having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and a breathing treatment. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, July 1st

 At 9:54 a.m., Truck 105, Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Monrovia Fire Department responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a structure fire. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke coming from a restaurant in a food court. Fire personnel aggressively attacked the fire, which was swiftly extinguished, and contained it to the unit of origin. Fire crews also checked for fire extension, ventilated the structure, and provided for firefighter safety.




 At 7:54 p.m., Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, Engine 106, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and Pasadena Fire Department responded to the 400 block of Old Ranch Road on a structure fire. Fire crews arrived to find a well involved vegetation fire to the front yard of a residence. Fire personnel pulled a pre-connected hose line to extinguish the fire. Truck 105 crews laddered the house and extinguished three small smoldering areas on the wood shake roof. Fire crews overhauled the area and a fire investigator was requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 391 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
