Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report -July 8 to July 14, 2018

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 8 – July 14, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, July 8th At 4:38 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of North Santa Cruz Road. Upon arrival, fire crews found an elderly patient in an altered level of consciousness after experiencing a diabetic related problem. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and intravenous administration of dextrose. The patient awoke to a normal state and refused any further treatment and transport to a local hospital. Monday, July 9th At 9:03 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 2300 block of South Fifth Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female who had experienced a near syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, July 10th At 10:58 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1300 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 81- year-old female feeling weak and dizzy with neurological deficit. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, July 11th At 6:29 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and Los Angeles County Fire Engine 5 responded to an appliance fire call in the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene and reported a possible air conditioner smoking. Truck 105 laddered the roof, found the malfunctioning unit, and used a fire extinguisher to cool the unit. Power to the unit was shut off and the responsible party was advised to contact a technician for repair. Thursday, July 12th At 12:55 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 37-year- old female having a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, July 13th At 4:43 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 71-year-old male experiencing abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

On Friday, July 13th, engine companies dropped by summer camps organized by Arcadia Recreation and Community Services and hosted at various elementary schools. Fire personnel talked to the campers about fire safety and demonstrated how a fire engine works.

Saturday, July 14th At 4:34 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Haven Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found an elderly male in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 356 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
