Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for week of September 3, 2017 to September 9

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 3, 2017 to September 9, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, September 3rd

At 11:38 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 65-year-old male experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, September 4th

At 9:17 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1100 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 72-year-old female experiencing hip pain after a slip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, and administration of pain medication. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, September 5th

At 2:34 p.m., Engine 106, Pasadena Fire Engine 37, Los Angeles County Fire Engine 5, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 1100 block of Hugo Reid Drive on reports of smoke inside of a structure. Fire crews arrived on scene and reported nothing showing from the street and occupants evacuated from the structure. Upon further investigation, fire personnel found one breaker tripped on the building’s electrical panel. Fire units assisted in evacuating the smoke from the structure and advised the resident to contact an air conditioning technician. The scene was released to the responsible party.

Wednesday, September 6th

At 10:38 p.m., Engine 106 responded to the 400 block of Oxford Drive on a downed power line. Upon arrival, fire personnel

found a high voltage power line had broken and crossed over another line, causing it to glow bright red and cut off power to area. Fire crews contacted Southern California Edison and, with the assistance of Arcadia Police, notified all nearby residents of the hazard. Fire personnel remained on scene until SCE de-energized the power lines.

Thursday, September 7th

At 3:28 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to the 100 block of Campus Drive on a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Fire personnel arrived to find a 15-year-old female pedestrian experiencing head and torso pain after being struck by a vehicle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, wound care, and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, September 8th

At 11:02 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on an elevator rescue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one person trapped in a malfunctioning elevator on the third floor. The power to the elevator was shut down and an elevator tool was used to open the door. The trapped person was rescued, assessed and evaluated, and then released. The elevator was secured and released to building management.

Saturday, September 9th

At 1:10 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the intersection of West Duarte Road and South Baldwin Avenue on a traffic collision with a person trapped. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-car traffic collision with five patients–one requiring extrication. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, medication therapy, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. One critical patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment. The four additional patients sustained minor injuries and were transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.



Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 250 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
