Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for week of October 8 to October 14, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of October 8, 2017 to October 14, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, October 8th
At 8:15 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 100 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 68-year-old male with a head injury after an unknown object broke the vehicle windshield and console causing debris to projectile at the driver’s head. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, October 9th
At 7:05 a.m., Arcadia fire units responded to the 900 block of Chestnut Avenue, Monrovia, on a structure fire. Fire crews arrived on scene and began assisting Monrovia Fire units with extinguishment. Due to the amount of fire in the building, a second alarm was requested and units assumed a defensive posture and attacked the fire from the exterior of the building. Arcadia fire units remained on scene until the fire was knocked out and also assisted with overhaul and salvage.
Tuesday, October 10th
At 6:20 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1900 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 64-year-old female having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, October 11th
At 9:47 p.m., Engine 706 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 84-year-old female having heart palpitations. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, October 12th

At 12:21 a.m., Truck 105, Engine 107, Engine 105, Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 along with units from Monrovia Fire Department, responded to the 200 block of Laurel Avenue on a structure fire. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and fire coming from the front of the structure. Fire personnel aggressively attacked and extinguished the fire containing it to the building of origin. Fire crews also searched for any victims, ventilated the structure, and provided for firefighter safety. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Friday, October 13th
At 11:31 a.m., Battalion 105 and Sierra Madre Engine 41 responded to the 600 block of North Michillinda Avenue, Sierra Madre, on a reported odor of smoke inside a structure. Fire crews arrived and met the homeowner who described an odor that would come and go over the last few days. Fire crews checked the entire residence, including the attic and crawl space using a gas monitor and thermal imager. No odor of smoke nor unsafe levels of any gases was detected inside the residence. The resident was advised to call 9-1-1 if the odor returned.
Saturday, October 14th
At 11:28 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 65-year-old male who experienced a syncopal episode after working out. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Strike Team Activity

On Monday, October 9th, Engine 106 was dispatched to the Canyon II Fire in Orange County, as part of Strike Team 1204A, where they performed structure defense and mop up. On Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., the strike team was demobilized from the Canyon II Fire and dispatched to the Southern LMU Complex Fire in Napa, California.
On Wednesday, October 11th, OES 343 was dispatched to the Central LMU Complex Fire in Napa California, as part of Strike Team OES 1801A.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
