Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for week of October 22 to October 28, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of October 22, 2017 to October 28, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, October 22nd

At 8:10 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Colorado Boulevard on a traffic accident. Fire crews arrived to find a 45-year-old female experiencing head pain after a traffic collision. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, October 23rd

At 1:06 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to the 300 block of West Huntington Drive on persons trapped in an elevator. Upon arrival, fire crews found two labor and delivery nurses, a new mother, and newborn baby trapped in a stalled elevator. Fire personnel shut down power to the elevator and used elevator tools to pry open the doors and safely removed the occupants.

Tuesday, October 24th

At 12:28 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1800 block of Alta Oaks Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male experiencing chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, October 25th

At 6:19 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 400 block of East Santa Clara Avenue on a fire alarm. Upon arrival, fire crews found a fire alarm activation and evacuation in progress at a residential hotel. Investigation revealed burnt food inside a residential unit that had filled the third floor with smoke. Fire personnel assisted with positive pressure ventilation. No damage and no injuries were reported.

Thursday, October 26th

At 9:10 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Rescue

Ambulance 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 100 block of West Duarte Road on a rescue call. Fire personnel arrived to find a 42-year-old male standing on top of scaffolding, approximately 15’ off the ground. The construction worker had sustained a significant injury to his arm and was unable to bring himself to the ground. Fire crews set up a ladder slide utilizing the aerial ladder on Truck 105, packaged the patient into a Stokes basket, and brought him down on the ladder slide. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, intravenous therapy, and trauma bandaging. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, October 27th

At 3:49 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the intersection of South Santa Anita Avenue and Campus Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 45- year-old male who had experienced a sudden onset of weakness, dizziness, and blurred vision while he was driving. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, October 28th

At 5:36 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 2300 block of South Third Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 221 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
