The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 3 – June 9, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, June 3rd
At 5:00 a.m., Engine 107 responded to the Aliso Incident in Orange County, as part of Strike Team XLC 1204A, in support ofthe State of California’s master mutual aid program. Strike Team

XLC 1204A arrived at the incident and was immediately assigned to Structure Defense Group. During deployment the strike team provided structure protection, perimeter control, and fire mop-up support. The strike team was released from the incident on June 4th.

Monday, June 4th
At 1:14 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of Southview Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient experiencing hip pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose testing. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, June 5th
At 12:13 p.m., Engine 107 and Truck 105 responded to a flooded condition in the 200 block of Arbolada Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a ruptured water line connected to a washing machine that spilled approximately an inch of water into the laundry room and adjacent rooms. Fire personnel shut off the valve to the water line and removed the water with a vacuum and squeegees. The property was released to the owner for further damage recovery.
Wednesday, June 6th
At 7:49 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male juvenile with right arm pain after a mechanical trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, cervical spine assessment, and pain management. The patient was transported Methodist Hospital of Southern California, an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP), for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, June 7th
At 9:43 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a request for assistance at the Methodist Hospital Emergency Room. Fire crews arrived to find a patient with a swollen hand needing assistance with the removal of a ring. Initial attempts to cut the ring were unsuccessful. A thin string was used to wrap the finger which allowed the ring to slip off. The patient was left in the care of hospital personnel for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, June 8th
At 10:36 a.m., Truck 105, Monrovia Squad 101, and a Cole Schaefer basic life support ambulance responded to a two vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of North Second Avenue and East Santa Clara Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one patient complaining of pain in multiple areas. The patient was assessed and received advanced life support including intravenous therapy, cervical spine assessment, and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, June 9th
At 6:12 p.m., Truck 105 responded to a wires down call in the 1200 block of Short Street. Fire crews arrived to find a telephone line hanging from a power pole to a residence without proper anchor. Fire personnel anchored the phone line to a gate to prevent high profile vehicles from hooking the line while driving by. The resident was advised to contact the telephone company for repair.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 325 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 36 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
