Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for the week of November 5, 2017 to November 11, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 5, 2017 to November 11, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, November 5th

At 4:02 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 500 block of Wisteria Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 61-year-old male with head and abdominal pain after falling off of his roof. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, November 6th

At 11:17 a.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to the 100 block of Campus Drive on an elevator rescue. Fire personnel arrived to find four persons trapped in a malfunctioning elevator between the first and second floors. The power to the elevator was shut down and the elevator was manually lowered by draining the hydraulic fluid in the lowering mechanism. Once released, the occupants were assessed and confirmed there were no medical complaints. The elevator was secured and released to building management.

Tuesday, November 7th

At 7:48 a.m., Engine 106 responded to the 600 block of West Naomi Avenue on downed power lines. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a power line down in the street that was previously attached from a pole to another pole. Fire personnel secured the area and stood by until Southern California Edison arrived on scene and de-energized the power line. The scene was released to the SCE and the home owner.

Wednesday, November 8th

At 11:46 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 65-year-old male experiencing an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, November 9th

At 12:09 a.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 101 responded to the 400 block of East Live Oak Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire crews found an 80-year-old female having an anxiety attack. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, November 10th

At 1:21 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a child locked in a vehicle. Fire personnel investigated and found an infant had been accidently locked in a vehicle. Fire crews broke the rear window and removed the infant from car. The patient was evaluated by paramedics and released to her mother who was advised to seek further evaluation and treatment by a physician.

Saturday, November 11th


At 11:28 a.m., Truck 105, Engine 105, Engine 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the 00 block of West La Sierra Drive on an appliance fire. Upon arrival, fire units observed light smoke coming from the rear of the home. Investigation found a small fire within a dryer. Fire crews extinguished the fire, provided for smoke removal, and checked for any extension of fire in the surrounding area. Fire personnel removed the dryer from the residence and contacted Southern California Gas Company to restore natural gas service. The scene was released to the resident.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 430 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
