The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 4 – March 10, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, March 4th
At 6:34 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 33- year-old female experiencing hip pain and leg numbness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, March 5th
At 11:25 a.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 and Monrovia Truck 101 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of South Mayflower Avenue, Monrovia. Fire personnel arrived to find a 47-year-old male having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, intravenous access, and pain medication. The patient was transported by private ambulance to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, March 6th
At 3:32 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Palm Drive. Upon arrival and through a translator, fire personnel evaluated a female patient feeling dizzy. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, neurological assessment, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, March 7th
At 5:05 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of La Cadena Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an infant in an altered level of consciousness after falling from a bed. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, cervical spine assessment, intravenous therapy, and pain management. The patient was transported to the pediatric trauma center at LAC+USC Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, March 8th
At 6:56 p.m., Truck 105 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 101 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male experiencing pain after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, March 9th
At 1:13 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a male patient in in distress after self-administering heroin. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, March 10th
At 10:23 p.m., Truck 105 responded to a public assist at Methodist Hospital of Southern California, 300 West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find emergency room personnel struggling to remove a jade bracelet from a female patient with a possible broken wrist. Fire personnel quickly removed the bracelet utilizing a small rotary cutting tool. The patient was left in the care of hospital staff.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 40 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 339 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
