Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for the week of March 25 – March 31, 2018

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 25 – March 31, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, March 25th

At 7:20 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2000 block of Oaks Place. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient having shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, March 26th

At 3:22 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of West Live Oak Avenue and El Monte Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find two elderly females experiencing abdominal pain after being involved in a two- vehicle traffic accident. Paramedics provided basic life support measures to both patients and transported them to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, March 27th

At 12:42 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of South First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 12-year-old boy vomiting and with facial swelling after being stung by a bee while playing soccer. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, administration of medication, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, March 28th

At 12:29 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of Naomi Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 87-year-old female who began experiencing a choking feeling while consuming lunch. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, March 29th

At 7:16 a.m., Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of West Foothill Boulevard and North Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic accident with one vehicle overturned. The occupants self-extricated through the hatch. A 55-year-old female driver with trauma to her left eye received advanced




life support measures on scene and was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. The other vehicle’s driver denied any complaints and declined medical evaluation.

Friday, March 30th

At 5:34 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of Bungalow Place. Fire crews arrived to find a female patient experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, March 31st

At 2:03 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of Naomi Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 71-year-old female having repeated seizure activity. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, intravenous access, and administration of medication. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 16 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 349 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
