The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 11 – March 17, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, March 11th
At 7:46 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1500 block of Greenfield Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient experiencing generalized weakness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, March 12th
At 12:22 p.m., Engine 106 responded to downed power lines in the 200 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a low hanging power line connected from a pole to a weather head that was dislodged by a delivery truck. Fire personnel secured the area and stood by until the power company arrived on scene.
Tuesday, March 13th
At 10:42 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a vehicle fire in the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a passenger vehicle with its engine compartment on fire. Fire crews extended a pre- connected hose line to extinguish the fire. The fire was overhauled and the cause was determined to be a possible faulty fuel line.
Wednesday, March 14th
At 7:38 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at the Metro Rail Station, 201 North First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a combative male, in Los Angeles County Sheriff’s custody, experiencing the effects of a drug overdose. A hood was placed over the patient’s head to prevent him from spitting on first responders. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, March 15th
At 11:03 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2000 block of South Sixth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 90-year-old female in full cardiac arrest. The patient met local protocol and was pronounced deceased. The scene was released to the Arcadia Police Department.
Friday, March 16th
At 4:29 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire personnel arrived to find a 62-year-old male experiencing abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, March 17th
At 2:52 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews evaluated a 22-year- old female in an altered level of consciousness. The patient revealed she had been using expired medication to control her diabetes. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 40 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 364 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
