Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for the week of January 7 – January 13, 2018

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 7 – January 13, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, January 7th

At 10:12 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a water flow alarm in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a horse had knocked off a fire sprinkler head in a barn area. Water was shut down to the barn and the sprinkler head was replaced.

Monday, January 8th

At 5:25 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a female patient in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, oxygen therapy, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, January 9th

At 12:47 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an infant having trouble breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, January 10th

At 8:25 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107,

Monrovia Engine 102, Truck 105, Paramedic Rescue 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported garage fire in the 2300 block of South Eighth Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find the homeowner attempting to extinguish a storage shed fire adjacent to a detached garage. Fire crews deployed a hose line to fully extinguish the fire and performed overhaul. The adjacent detached garage sustained minor damage to the eaves. The homeowner sustained burns to several parts of his body and was treated on scene by paramedics. He was transported to a local area hospital for further evaluation and treatment. A fire investigator also responded to the scene. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Thursday, January 11th

At 1:12 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105, with units from the Monrovia Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 800 block of Alta Street, Monrovia. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a detached two-car garage fully involved with fire. Fire crews immediately began attacking the fire and extinguished it shortly after arrival, containing the fire to the structure of origin. Firefighters were able to protect surrounding structures and property from damage. Fire units also assisted with overhaul.

At 5:46 a.m., Truck 105 and Battalion 105 responded to a vehicle into a structure call in the 6000 block of Rosemead Boulevard in the Los Angeles County area. Fire crews arrived to find a trash truck lodged into a two-story apartment unit after it had rear-ended a passenger vehicle. The driver of the trash truck was found trapped inside the vehicle. Fire units worked to disentangle the patient and stabilize the structure. The patient was treated by Los Angeles County Fire paramedics and transported to a local area hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, January 12th

At 1:02 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a female patient who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, January 13th

At 6:40 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a vegetation fire in the 300 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a small fire burning in some hedges. The fire was quickly extinguished and a fire investigator was requested to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Regional Task Force and Strike Team Activity

On Wednesday, January 10th, units from the Arcadia Fire Department were dispatched to assist with the January Storm Incident in Santa Barbara County. OES Engine 343 responded as part of Strike Team OES 1840A and performed search and rescue operations. USAR 106 and Battalion 105 responded as part of USAR Regional Task Force 4. Battalion 105 performed the role of task force leader. USAR 106 performed search and rescue operations including mapping, shoring, and debris monitoring. All units returned home on January 17th.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 229 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
