Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for the week of February 11 – February 17, 2018

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 11 – February 17, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, February 11th

At 1:09 p.m., US&R 106 with Monrovia Engine 101, Truck 101, Squad 101, and Battalion 10 responded to a medical

assist at 1200 North Canyon Blvd., Monrovia. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a hiker near the bottom of a 75’ embankment. The victim had fallen down the embankment and needed rescue. Fire personnel worked together with a rope system to raise the victim out of the area. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring, and spinal precautions. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, February 12th

At 11:08 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 2100 block of Terra Lane. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, February 13th

At 9:08 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire crews found an elderly male complaining of generalized weakness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, oxygen therapy, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, February 14th

At 1:29 p.m., Battalion 105, with units from San Gabriel and Los Angeles County Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 632 South San Gabriel Boulevard, San Gabriel. Upon arrival, fire units found multiple structures burning within a nursery. Fire personnel aggressively extinguished the fire and contained the fire to the nursery. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.




Thursday, February 15th

At 8:25 a.m., Engine 107, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a vehicle

into a structure call in the 1800 block of Stonehouse Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a vehicle that had collided into a residence, resting on its side. Fire crews evaluated a male patient complaining of head and extremity pain. The patient was extricated from the vehicle, placed in full spinal immobilization, and transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, February 16th

At 11:46 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of East Huntington Drive and North First Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find a male patient experiencing chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, February 17th

At 10:27 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Winnie Way. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient having abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 410 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
