The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of December 17, 2017 to December 23, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, December 17th
At 8:53 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 800 block of Volante Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a female patient having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, December 18th
At 2:22 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the intersection of South Santa Anita Avenue and East Camino Real Avenue on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a female patient experiencing left foot pain after being involved in a two-vehicle traffic collision. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene. The patient refused further treatment and transport to a local hospital.
Tuesday, December 19th
At 10:48 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1500 block of Melanie Lane on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient in an altered mental status. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures at the scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medication therapy, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, December 20th
At 4:53 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion105 along with units from Pasadena Fire, Monrovia Fire, and Los Angeles County Fire departments responded to the 300 block of West Camino Real Avenue on a structure fire. Fire crews arrived to find alarms ringing and a fire sprinkler head activated and discharging water. Further investigation determined a pan with hot oil was inadvertently left on the stove top activating the sprinkler head that extinguished the pan fire. The fire sprinkler system was shut down while crews removed water and replaced the activated sprinkler head.
Thursday, December 21st
At 6:18 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the intersection of El Monte Avenue and Live Oak Avenue on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire crews found a two- vehicle traffic accident with three patients complaining of minor aches and pains. Fire personnel provided basic life support measures on scene and transported all three to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, December 22nd
At 6:36 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a child having a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, December 23rd
At 10:45 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of Los Altos Avenue on a medical call. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient experiencing hip pain after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Strike Team Activity
During the week of December 17th through the 23rd Arcadia Fire personnel deployed at the Thomas Incident in Ventura County were enthusiastically welcomed back home this week. Engine 105 and Battalion 105 were part of Strike Team XLC 1205A and returned on December 18th after 14 days of deployment. OES Engine 343 was part of Strike Team OES 1840A and returned on December 20th after 16 days of deployment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 28 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 329 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
