The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of December 24, 2017 to December 30, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, December 24th
At 1:10 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to the 00 block of West Arthur Avenue on a medical call. Fire crews arrived to find a female patient who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, December 25th
At 12:40 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 800 block of South Sunset Boulevard on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient experiencing leg pain and weakness after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and medication for pain. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, December 26th
At 1:11 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 106, Sierra Madre Engine 4, and Rescue Ambulance 41 responded to the 500 block of Sierra Madre Avenue, Sierra Madre, on a traffic collision. Fire crews arrived to find two patients requiring medical attention. Rescue Ambulance 106 assessed a patient experiencing an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The other patient was treated by Sierra Madre fire personnel.
Wednesday, December 27th
At 10:21 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1000 block of North Don Pablo Drive on a medical call. Fire crews arrived to find a female patient in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Valley Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, December 28th
At 4:16 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to the 100 block of East Wistaria Avenue on a medical call. Upon arrival, fire crews found a female patient who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, December 29th
At 7:29 a.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to the 00 block of East Huntington Drive on a flooded condition. Upon arrival, fire crews found the windmill on top of the structure had fallen and come to rest on the roof top of Denny’s Restaurant. All occupants were evacuated with no injuries reported. The windmill was wedged in a way that it was not in danger of falling any further. A building inspector arrived and assessed the structure, and advised the manager that the restaurant would be closed due to the structural damage inside. The area around the Denny’s sidewalk was cordoned off with caution tape as a safety measure.
At 2:18 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an assault victim experiencing neck pain after being battered with an object over the back of his head. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including spinal immobilization precautions, intravenous access, and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Arcadia Police responded for the investigation.
Saturday, December 30th
At 9:51 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 300 block of Sharon Road on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient experiencing shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of seven hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 207 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
