Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report for the week of August 27, 2017 to September 2, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 27, 2017 to September 2, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, August 27th

At 6:11 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 00 block of Naomi Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 51-year-old female in cardiac arrest after being pulled from a swimming pool. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen, medication therapy, intravenous access, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, August 28th

At 10:13 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1300 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 36-year-old female experiencing knee pain after being struck by a car. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization and immobilizing the injured knee. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, August 29th

At 4:58 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1500 block of South Second Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 22-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness after ingesting LSD. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, August 30th

At 5:30 p.m., OES Engine 343 responded to the Pier incident at the Sequoia National Forest, as part of Strike Team XLC 1840A, in support of the State of California’s master mutual aid program. Strike Team XLC 1840A arrived at the incident and was immediately assigned to Structure Defense Group Division M. During assignment, the strike team provided structure protection and perimeter control. As of the date of this report, the strike team is still assigned to this incident.

Thursday, August 31st

At 8:45 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to the 00 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 84-year-old female experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, September 1st

At 3:01 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 800 block of West Orange Grove Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 66-year old female having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, drug therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, September 2nd

At 10:25 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, Monrovia Engine 102, and Alhambra Truck 71 responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, fire units found a smoldering fire located at a vendor booth for a special event. Fire personnel extinguished and overhauled the fire with a booster line. A fire investigator also responded to the scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire which remains under investigation.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 247 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
