The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 20, 2017 to August 26, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, August 20th
At 2:48 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of East Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire crews evaluated a 57-year-old male, in an altered mental status, found acting combative and uncooperative by the Arcadia Police Department. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, August 21st
At 10:47 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1900 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 64-year-old female experiencing chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, August 22nd
At 6:51 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 200 block of Genoa Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire crews found an elderly male experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, August 23rd
At 1:24 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of Rolyn Place on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 34-year-old female at a birthing home, in labor, with delivery imminent. Birthing home staff stated the baby’s heart rate was very low and called 9-1-1. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, August 24th
At 7:31 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 300 block of Campus Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 66-year-old female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, August 25th
At 12:10 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an 80-year-old female experiencing shoulder pain after a mechanical fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, August 26th
At 4:22 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1700 block of Highland Oaks Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female in an altered mental status caused by hypoglycemia. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medication therapy, and blood glucose monitoring. After medication was administered by paramedics, the patient became alert and oriented. The patient refused further treatment and was left in the care of family members.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 32 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 312 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
