The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 29 – May 5, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, April 29th
At 5:51 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of Magna Vista Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing left arm pain after a mechanical fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose check. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, April 30th
At 12:55 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, and Pasadena Truck 32 responded to a gas main leak in the 900 block of Hampton Road. Fire crews arrived to find a major gas leak from a sheared line in the road. Residents in the vicinity were ordered to shelter in place and access was limited to the area. The Gas Company responded to the scene and fire personnel stood by with a protection line until the problem was mitigated.
Tuesday, May 1st
At 7:49 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105, along with Los Angeles County Fire Engine 5, and Pasadena Truck 32 responded to an electrical fire in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews investigated and found a plastic coffee pot sitting on top of a commercial coffee brewer. The plastic coffee pot began to melt on the coffee brewer heating element, emitting the odor of burning rubber. There was no fire at the location. The coffee pot and heating element were removed from the structure and the facility was ventilated using a ventilation fan. Once the smell dissipated, the facility resumed operation.
Wednesday, May 2nd
At 9:26 p.m., Truck 105 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 101 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Colorado Boulevard. Fire crews arrived to find a male patient with an injury to his eye after accidentally spraying it with cologne. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene including flushing the eye with normal saline. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, May 3rd
At 10:48 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1300 block of Linda Way. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing general weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, May 4th
At 2:40 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 78- year-old male having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose check, intravenous access, and pain medication. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, May 5th
At 11:11 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a truck had backed into a fire hydrant and sheared it from the pavement. The resulting geyser flooded an adjacent vehicle before the water could be shut off. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 331 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 40 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
