The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 18, 2017 to June 24, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, June 18th
At 6:37 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the intersection of Mayflower Avenue and Jeffries Avenue on a vehicle fire report. On arrival fire crews found a Chevrolet pickup truck well involved with fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Monday, June 19th
At 11:37 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, and Monrovia Fire Department responded to the 200 block of South Second Avenue on a reported apartment fire. Engine 105 was first to arrive on scene and reported a fully involved carport fire with multiple vehicles involved. Fire crews aggressively attacked the fire, confining damage to the involved carport and nearby vehicles; three vehicles were destroyed and another three were damaged. Arcadia Police assisted with precautionary evacuations and traffic control. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Tuesday, June 20th
At 6:29 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an unconscious 22-year-old male. An evaluation determined the patient had likely recently used heroin, which commonly suppresses the respiratory system. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, and administration of Narran, which reverses the effects of heroin. The patient immediately regained consciousness then refused any further treatment or transport to a local hospital. He was released to the Arcadia Police Department.
Wednesday, June 21st
At 7:19 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 600 block of East Camino Grove Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, June 22nd
At 11:05 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1000 block of North First Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 52-year-old male having a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, June 23rd
At 4:31 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 47-year-old male experiencing severe abdominal pain and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, pain management, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, June 24th
At 7:02 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the intersection of West Huntington Drive and South Sunset Boulevard on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic accident with one vehicle overturned and all occupants self-extricated. Two patients received advanced life support measures on scene including spinal assessment, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. One patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment; the other refused further treatment and transport.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of eight hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 244 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
