Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report – Feb 12 to Feb 18, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 12, 2017 to February 18, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, February 12th

 At 7:27 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the intersection of East Duarte Road and South Second Avenue on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 24-year-old female with minor injuries. The patient received basic life support measures on scene including a secondary physical assessment, taking basic vital signs, and pain management. The patient refused transport to a local hospital. Arcadia Police also responded and remained on scene for investigation.




Monday, February 13th

 At 1:21 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, and units from Pasadena and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, responded tothe 500 block of West

 Duarte Road on a structure fire. Upon

arrival, fire units found light smoke coming from within a wall near an area where roofers were working. Arcadia Fire personnel investigated and found a small fire within the wall; personnel opened up the wall and extinguished the fire. Fire crews assisted with cleaning up standing water and released the incident to the building manager.




Tuesday, February 14th

 At 3:04 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 2800 block of Longley Way on a construction site injury. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 39-year-old male with a traumatic injury to his upper leg after a worm drive circular saw kicked back and cut into his thigh. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including treating the wound, and transported the patient to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Fire personnel contacted CAL-OSHA for notification of a significant workplace injury.

Wednesday, February 15th

 At 11:30 a.m., Engine 107 responded to the 100 block of East Sycamore Avenue on a report of a transformer fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered several upper level insulators and wires damaged with no fire. Witnesses stated that they heard three loud blasts prior to contacting the fire department. Fire personnel secured the area and advised the power company of the affected power pole. A few area residents experienced a short power outage. No other hazards were found.

Thursday, February 16th

 At 4:51 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 900 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two vehicle accident and a 19-year-old female with head pain. Fire crews assisted the patient out of her vehicle, evaluated her, and checked for injuries. The patient declined further treatment and transport to a local hospital.

Friday, February 17th

 At 9:48 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, responded to the 1000 block of Arcadia Avenue on a report of smoke in a structure. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered a small fire in a bathroom. Fire personnel extinguished the fire and initiated salvage, ventilation, and overhaul operations. The unit was released to the building manager after all fire suppression activities were completed. A fire investigator responded to the location to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.

Saturday, February 18th

 At 4:49 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 50-year-old male with hypoglycemia. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and medication therapy. The patient refused further treatment and transport to a local hospital.




Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 310 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
