Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report – August 21, 2016 to August 27, 2016

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 21, 2016 to August 27, 2016. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, August 21st

 At 12:55 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire personnel arrived to find an elderly male with injuries sustained from a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support on scene including cardiac monitoring and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, August 22nd

 At 1:57 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Naomi Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 18-year-old male with self- inflicted stab wounds. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, August 23rd

 At 8:58 a.m., Engine 705 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of Alice Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 77-year-old male suffering hip pain after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including pain medication and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, August 24th

 At 5:53 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Sharon Road. Fire personnel arrived to find an 84-year-female experiencing an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, August 25th

 At 1:01 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 55-year-old female not breathing and without a pulse. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardio pulmonary resuscitation, oxygen therapy, 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient regained heart rate and was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, August 26th

  1.   At 3:19 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in 100 block of Campus Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 16-year-old male experiencing a severe allergic reaction. Paramedics provided intravenous drug therapy on scene to counteract the effects of the allergic reaction. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further treatment and evaluation.

  2.   At 11:43 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a vehicle fire in the 100 block of West Norman Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel observed an engine compartment fire in a sport utility vehicle parked in the street. Fire crews extinguished the fire utilizing the fire engine’s pre-connected water hose. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Saturday, August 27th

 At 12:06 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, Sierra Madre Fire, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Air Support responded to an injured hiker call near the Mount Wilson Trail in the city of Sierra Madre. While Sierra Madre fire crews were making the four mile hike to the injured party and Battalion 105 set up the Incident Command System, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Air Support located the hiker. Sheriff’s paramedics were lowered from the helicopter to evaluate the patient’s condition. The patient was cared for and transported to a local hospital by Sheriff’s air support.

Volunteer Weekly Activity Report

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 76 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 796 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
