Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report -August 14, 2016 to August 20, 2016.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 14, 2016 to August 20, 2016. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, August 14th

 At 12:23 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a vehicle fire in the 1400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find light smoke coming from a vehicle. Fire crews quickly extinguished the small fire limiting damage to the vehicle. After overhaul and investigation, it was determined the fire started in the engine compartment due to possible animal habitat.




Monday, August 15th

At 5:43 p.m. Engine 107 responded to a report of fire and arching wires in the 500 block of Gloria Road. Witnesses stated some tree branches and an electrical line had caught fire but had been extinguished by gardeners prior to the arrival of fire personnel. A transformer also blew out when water hit the power line. The scene was turned over to Southern California Edison.




Tuesday, August 16th

 At 8:13 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist at Methodist Hospital of Southern California, 300 West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 28-year-old female in the emergency room complaining of abdominal and leg pain. The patient had been transported by family members after being run over by an automobile. Hospital personnel determined the patient required transport to Huntington Memorial Hospital (HMH) for further evaluation and treatment. Paramedics took over care of the patient and transported her to HMH.

Wednesday, August 17th

 At 6:29 p.m., Truck 105 responded to an animal rescue call in the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a dog locked in a vehicle but with the air conditioner running. The owner returned to his vehicle a few minutes later. The dog was unharmed.

Thursday, August 18th

 At 8:18 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire personnel arrived to find a 92-year-old male with a head laceration after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including spinal immobilization and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, August 19th

 At 8:22 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue call in 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find four occupants trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator. Fire personnel pried open the outer elevator doors, shut off power to the elevator, and evacuated the trapped occupants through a hatch in the roof.

Saturday, August 20th

 At 9:18 a.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision in the 800 block of Fairview Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a single vehicle, upside down, with one occupant outside the vehicle and another still trapped inside. Fire crews stabilized the vehicle, removed the trapped person, and provided advanced life support measures on scene. Both patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.




Volunteer Weekly Activity Report

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 32 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 856 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
