The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 13, 2017 to August 19, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, August 13th
At 1:47 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 700 block of West Duarte Road on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 88-year-old female experiencing abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, August 14th
At 10:04 a.m., Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to the 5000 block of Peck Road on a traffic collision involving an overturned delivery truck. Fire crews arrived to find a 72-year-old male driver in an altered level of consciousness after colliding into a delivery truck and pickup truck. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including spinal assessment, oxygen therapy, intravenous therapy, and 12- lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The other drivers refused medical treatment and declined transport to a local hospital.
Tuesday, August 15th
At 11:35 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of North Santa Anita Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 19-year-old male experiencing head pain after being assaulted. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cervical spinal assessment and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient refused any further treatment and declined transport to a local hospital. Arcadia Police also responded for investigation.
Wednesday, August 16th
At 9:08 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of North Santa Anita Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 50-year-old female in an altered level of consciousness after experiencing a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, August 17th
At 3:18 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 69-year-old female experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, August 18th
At 11:30 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of East Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 84-year-old female experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, August 19th
At 4:50 a.m., Truck 105, Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the Arcadia Gold Line Station on a reported train fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a Metro Gold Line train with smoke coming from the undercarriage of the first railcar. Train personnel had used a fire extinguisher to extinguish a small fire prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. Fire personnel investigated and determined the fire was out. The train was removed by Metro Gold Line personnel.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 32 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 417 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
