Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report – April 9 to April 15

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 9, 2017 to April 15, 2017

Sunday, April 9th

 At 4:39 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1700 block of North Santa Anita Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 62-year-old male having difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including a breathing treatment, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, April 10th

 At 9:09 p.m., Engine 105 and Pasadena Engine 37 responded to the westbound 210 Freeway at Baldwin Avenue on a vehicle fire. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a passenger vehicle fully involved. Fire personnel utilized a pre-connected hose line to extinguish the fire. Los Angeles County Engine 5 also arrived on scene to provide additional water resources and assist with overhauling the vehicle. The cause of the fire was undetermined. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Tuesday, April 11th

 At 11:44 a.m., Engine 107 responded to the 1800 block of South Sixth Avenue on an odor investigation. Fire crews arrived on scene and were directed to the rear of the property where the homeowner had detected an odor of natural gas. Fire personnel utilized a combustible gas meter and were not able to locate any gas or active leaks. The homeowner was advised of the findings and instructed to call 911 if the odor returned.

Wednesday, April 12th

 At 4:05 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the intersection of West Colorado Boulevard and Oakhurst Lane on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic accident and a female occupant with left forearm and right knee pain. Paramedics assessed the patient who ultimately refused further treatment and transport. The patient was left on scene with the Arcadia Police Department.

Thursday, April 13th

 At 2:17 p.m., Truck 105 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on an animal rescue. Upon arrival, fire personnel were met by Pasadena Humane Society officers who advised of two dogs in distress inside of a locked vehicle parked in the sun. Fire crews made access into the vehicle allowing animal control officers to take care of the dogs until the owner returned.

Friday, April 14th

 At 8:39 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 37-year-old female experiencing a syncopal episode. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, April 15th

 At 9:46 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and West Duarte Road on a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 79-year-old male with minor left knee pain after being hit by a vehicle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including splinting and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 325 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
