Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report- April 30 to May 6, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 30, 2017 to May 6, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 30th

 At 11:39 a.m., Engine 105 responded to the 700 block of East Camino Grove Avenue on a bee investigation. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an uninjured elderly female in distress due to a swarm of bees near her vehicle. Fire personnel safely escorted the female to her vehicle and she was able to leave the scene without incident. The bees were not aggressive and eventually moved on.

Monday, May 1st

 At 7:22 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 00 block of East Forest Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing hip pain after a mechanical fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, May 2nd

 At 1:25 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 00 block of Alta Street on a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a delivery van heavily evolved in fire. Fire crews deployed a hose line and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was determined to have started in the engine compartment and spread into the passenger space. The uninjured delivery truck driver was able to remove several packages from his vehicle prior to the fire’s evolvement but some were destroyed. The scene was released to Arcadia Police Department.

Wednesday, May 3rd

 At 5:54 a.m., Truck 105, Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, Pasadena Fire Department, and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded the 800 block of West Naomi Avenue on a structure fire. Upon arrival, fire crews found a restaurant in a large commercial property charged with smoke and its fire sprinkler system activated. Investigation revealed a small fire within the cooking area. Fire personnel extinguished the remaining fire, provided smoke removal, and protected the contents from incurring additional damage. Fire crews also assisted with cleanup of standing water and replaced an activated sprinkler head. The scene was released to the property manager.

Thursday, May 4th

 At 4:23 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded the 00 block of North Fifth Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 60-year-old male lying face-up on the ground in a parking lot. The patient advised he was not injured but fell when his knee gave out and was unable to get back up on his own. The patient was assisted back to his feet and did not require any further assistance.

Friday, May 5th

 At 3:41 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 and Monrovia Engine102 responded to the 1800 block of South Tenth Avenue on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an elderly male who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics assessed the patient and provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, May 6th

❖ At 1:15 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 900 block of East Camino Real Avenue on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 57-year-old female who had experienced a syncopal episode and a 35-year-old female feeling weak. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene to both patients including cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. One patient was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment, the other refused transport.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 380 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 76 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
