Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report-April 23 to April 29, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 23, 2017 to April 29, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 23rd




 At 12:18 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of Colorado Place on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a 45-year-old female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics performed advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, April 24th

 At 8:49 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 500 block of Gloria Road on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient in an altered mental condition. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, April 25th

 At 5:18 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Monrovia Fire and Paramedic units responded to the westbound 210 freeway at Huntington Drive on a multi- vehicle traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found multiple patients with injuries varying from mild to moderate. Arcadia paramedics assessed and provided life support measures to four of the injured parties. All four patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, April 26th

 At 6:18 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 58-year-old male experiencing hip and buttock pain after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, April 27th

 At 7:57 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 39-year-old female experiencing an allergic reaction. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, April 28th

 At 8:44 p.m., Engine 106 responded to the 1000 block of El Norte Avenue on a vegetation fire. Fire crews arrived to find a vegetation fire, to the front of a residence, ignited by a downed power line. Fire personnel immediately extinguished and overhauled the fire. The scene was released to representatives from Southern California Edison.

Saturday, April 29th

 At 12:43 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and Los Angeles County Engine 5 responded to the 1100 block of Arcadia Avenue on an appliance fire. Fire crews arrived on scene and found light smoke in a laundry room to the rear of an apartment complex. Investigation revealed a fire behind a washing machine. Once the fire burned through the water line attached to the washing machine, it was extinguished by the water in the line. Fire personnel checked for extension, turned off the electrical breakers to the laundry room, and removed water from the room. The property manager was contacted and advised to make the necessary repairs.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 352 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
