Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report – April 2, 2017 to April 8, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 2, 2017 to April 8, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 2nd

 At 1:35 p.m., Truck 105 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 101 responded to the 300 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 20-year- old female experiencing weakness and dizziness. Fire crews provided advanced life support measures on scene including glucose testing, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, April 3rd

 At 8:08 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 54-year-old female with facial trauma after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including a glucose test and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, April 4th

 At 11:29 a.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to the westbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue on a traffic collision involving a tractor-trailer. Upon arrival, fire crews assessed two occupants who declined medical treatment. An uninjured elderly female, trapped in her vehicle due to heavy damage, was extricated by fire personnel using the Jaws of Life.

Wednesday, April 5th

 At 11:04 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the intersection of El Monte Avenue and West Lemon Avenue on a traffic collision. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a vehicle on the sidewalk resting against a fence. Paramedics assessed the 17- year-old male driver of the vehicle who was not injured and declined any medical treatment. Fire crews inspected the vehicle, determined it was not leaking any fluids, and released the scene to the Arcadia Police Department.

Thursday, April 6th

 At 6:43 p.m., Fire crews responded to the lobby of Station 105, 710 South Santa Anita Avenue, on a medical call. Fire personnel were met by parents who stated their newborn infant had briefly stopped breathing but was now doing fine. Paramedics assessed the 2-day- old infant and transported her to the pediatric medical center at Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, April 7th

 At 11:47 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 100 block of East Duarte Road on a traffic collision involving a vehicle in a structure. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a vehicle had struck a building. The occupant of the vehicle was not injured. Fire crews evacuated the occupants of the building and requested a City building inspector respond to the location. The City building inspector determined the structure was safe to occupy. Arcadia Police also responded to the scene.

Saturday, April 8th

 At 12:15 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 32-year-old male complaining of severe ankle pain after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, splinting, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 343 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
