Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report-3/5 to 3/11, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 5, 2017 to March 11, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, March 5th

 At 3:15 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, and Pasadena Truck 32 responded to the 100 block of South Second Avenue on a report of smoke in a structure. Fire crews arrived on scene and reported light smoke coming from a baseball field snack bar. Truck 105 also arrived and remained on scene; all additional units were cancelled. Investigation revealed the smoke was originating from an electrical surge in the area. The water supply to the building was also damaged during the surge. Fire crews used natural ventilation to remove the smoke from the building then turned the scene over to a responsible party.

Monday, March 6th

 At 1:47 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 700 block of Camino Grove Avenue on a bee investigation. Upon arrival, fire crews were led to a small bee hive on the property. A safe area was created around the bee hive and staff instructed students to keep away from the area. Staff was advised to call a bee keeper to have the hive removed.

Tuesday, March 7th

At 7:25 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue

Ambulance 106, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, and Pasadena Truck 32 responded to the intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and West Foothill Boulevard on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found two occupants with moderate to severe injuries, in separate vehicles, requiring extrication. Both patients received advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, oxygen therapy, and 12- lead cardiac monitoring. The patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, March 8th

 At 10:30 a.m., Engine 105 responded to the 200 block of Walnut Avenue on a request for damage assessment.

Upon arrival, fire personnel found a large tree that had uprooted and fallen onto a home. The tree had breached a ceiling and caused damage to one room in the residence. Fire personnel and

representatives from the City’s building department assessed the damage to the home and deemed it safe to occupy with the exception of the breached room. The privately owned tree will be further assessed by the homeowner.

Thursday, March 9th

 At 9:48 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1800 block of Alta Oaks on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing heart palpitations. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, March 10th

 At 1:21 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 2400 block of El Monte Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 3-year-old toddler with a high fever. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including rapid cooling and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, March 11th

 At 3:26 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical call. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male having a cardiac episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardioversion therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, intravenous access, and medication. Paramedics converted the patient’s heart rhythm to normal and transported him to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
