Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report 10/2 to 10/8, 2016

Sunday, October 2nd

 At 10:48 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 100 block of East Sycamore Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 33-year-old male with a sport-related injury to his leg. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, pain management, and splinting. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, October 3rd

 At 3:10 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 73-year-old female complaining of an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, October 4th

 At 5:50 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1900 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 63-year-old male complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advance life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, oxygen therapy, and administration of cardiac medication. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, October 5th

 At 6:17 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, Urban Search and Rescue 106, and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to a medical assist and rescue call in the 5400 block of Peck Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel located a male and female who had fallen to the bottom of a 75-foot embankment. The 68-year-old male suffered head, neck, and lower back pain after rolling down the hill. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including pain medication and spinal immobilization. The patient was rescued with a rope system and transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The uninjured female was assisted back up the hill and transported to her vehicle.




Thursday, October 6th

 At 10:59 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of West Huntington Drive and Holly Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a two-vehicle accident with one vehicle overturned. All persons involved in the accident had self-extricated prior to Fire Department arrival. Paramedics evaluated three patients and transported a 44-year-old male with back pain to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Arcadia Police also responded to the scene.

Friday, October 7th

 At 1:08 p.m., Battalion 105, Truck 105, Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Urban Search and Rescue 106, with units from the Monrovia Fire Department and Pasadena Fire Department, responded to a person trapped under a tree in the 1000 block of Alta Vista Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found two male patients with major injuries after getting pinned between a vehicle and tree. Neither patient was trapped at the time of arrival. One patient was suffering from bilateral open leg fractures and an arm fracture. The second patient was complaining of chest pain and extremities pain. Both patients received advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, wound care, and full spinal immobilization. The patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, October 8th

 At 11:35 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of West Colorado Place. Fire crews arrived to find a 38-year-old female complaining of weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Volunteer Weekly Activity Report

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 259 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
