Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 24 – June 30, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, June 24th

At 4:42 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of downed power lines in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered a low hanging power line connected from pole to pole that had snapped after a balloon caused the line to arc. A secondary pole to pole line also snapped one block south of the initial problem. Fire crews secured the area, with the assistance of the Arcadia Police Department, until the arrival of power company representatives. Approximately 1200 customers were affected by the power outage.

Monday, June 25th

At 10:01 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Newman Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, June 26th

At 3:08 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 39-year-old female experiencing general weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, June 27th

At 4:53 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 28-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness, possibly due to a drug overdose. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, June 28th

At 4:32 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 38-year-old female who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, June 29th

At 4:36 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of downed power lines in the 2600 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a downed power line that caused a small fire to a shed at the rear of the location. Fire crews extinguished the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher. Fire units remained on scene until the arrival of power company representatives.

Saturday, June 30th

At 12:08 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of South Golden West Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male having a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 379 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 12 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
