Arcadia Fire Department weekly activity report covering July 2 – July 8, 2017.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 2 to July 8, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, July 2nd

 At 2:51 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 100 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 30-year-old female having an anxiety attack. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, July 3rd

 At 9:24 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the 200 block of East Forest Avenue on an oil spill investigation. The reporting party advised he found four one-gallon containers of motor oil in the alley and was in the process of moving them when one spilled onto the ground. Fire personnel contacted the Los Angeles County Health HAZMAT unit to assist with the retrieval and disposal of the motor oil.

Tuesday, July 4th

 At 12:01 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 300 block of Oxford Drive on a medical assist. Fire personnel arrived to find an elderly female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, July 5th

 At 5:06 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to South Eighth Avenue and Tiffany Terrace on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 26-year-old female lying on the ground having a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, July 6th

 At 4:56 p.m., Engine 105 and Recue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of North San Antonio Road on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Friday, July 7th

 At 4:03 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of Las Tunas Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 88-year-old female experiencing a neurological deficit. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, July 8th

 At 2:30 a.m., OES 343 responded to the Alamo fire incident in Santa Maria, as part of OES Strike Team XLC 1801A, in support of the California Fire Assistance Agreement. Strike team XLC 1801A arrived at the incident and was immediately assigned to Division Z, for perimeter control and mop-up, for a 24-hour operational period. At the time, the incident was 10% contained with over 200 homes threatened and 19,000 acers burned. Strike team XLC1801A will be assigned to the incident until released.



Volunteer Activity



During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 272 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
