64-year-old hit by car in crosswalk

The Arcadia Police Department responded to 991 calls for service from Sunday, Feb. 6 through Saturday, Feb. 12, of which 145 required formal investigations. Here is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the officers of the Arcadia Police Department during this period. (Listed in crime categories created by Arcadia’s Best).

64-year-old pedestrian in crosswalk hit by car on Santa Anita Ave. Shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, an auto versus pedestrian accident occurred at Santa Anita Ave. and Alta.  A 64-year-old male pedestrian was struck in the crosswalk and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Blackberry stolen from pedestrian Units responded to the 2100 block of El Sereno regarding a robbery that occurred at Baldwin and Camino Real around 9:54 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11. The victim was using his Blackberry when he walked passed 3 male Hispanic suspects, between 16 and 18 years of age. One suspect bumped him from behind, causing him to drop his phone. A suspect grabbed the victim’s Blackberry and they all fled the scene on foot.

Residential burglaries/theft A residential burglary occurred in the 600 block of Santa Rosa between 8:15 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8. Unknown suspect(s) entered the house through an unlocked door and removed several firearms, jewelry, stamp and coin collection, and electronic equipment.

Business theft, burglary, grand theft * Between noon on Feb. 5 and 6 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, a burglary occurred at a construction site in the 1300 of Glencoe. Unknown suspect(s) forced open a locked room and stole a $2,000 paint sprayer. * Loss prevention personnel from Macy’s at Westfield Santa Anita mall detained a woman for theft around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9. The suspect brought an empty Macy’s shopping bag to the store, concealed merchandise in the bag, and left without making payment. A private person’s arrest was made, and a 35-year-old Hispanic was taken into custody for commercial burglary and for a $75,000 outstanding warrant. * Around 1:05 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, officers were dispatched to Victoria’s Secret regarding a man detained for theft. The suspect took six bottles of perfume and hid them in a bag.  A private person’s arrest was made, and a 23-year-old Hispanic was taken into custody for commercial burglary. * Around 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, officers were dispatched to Claire’s at Westfield Santa Anita in reference to a commercial burglary that just occurred. Four African-American female suspects were detained by mall security in the parking lot. Stolen property from Claire’s was recovered in a suspect’s purse and additional stolen merchandise from Cotton On and H&M were found in their vehicle. Private persons’ arrests were made, and two 19-year-old women and a 17-year-old juvenile were taken into custody for commercial burglary and receiving stolen property.

Auto burglary * Units responded to the 200 block of East Newman around 6:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, in reference to an auto burglary that just occurred. The victim exited her home and found a male Hispanic sitting in her vehicle. The suspect then left the scene in an unreported stolen Honda Accord out of West Covina. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned at Fifth and Floral. * Between 5:05 p.m. and 7:21 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, an auto burglary occurred at the Westfield Mall parking lot. Unknown suspect(s) punched a door lock and stole a purse, a third row car seat, and an in-dash navigation system. * A grand theft auto occurred between 8 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. A 1994 white GMC was stolen from 411 East Huntington.

Alcohol/drugs * A traffic stop was initiated around 11:19 p.m. at Peck and Foothill Transit Way when officers observed a driver make an illegal U-turn.  A 25-year-old male Hispanic driver was contacted and it was determined that he was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.  The man was arrested for DUI without incident. * Shortly before 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, a traffic stop was initiated at Duarte Road and Lovell for an equipment violation. An intoxicated 38-year-old male Hispanic driver was contacted, and investigation revealed that he was driving on a suspended license, was on probation for DUI, and had 2 outstanding warrants. The driver was arrested at the scene, and a 24-year-old male Hispanic passenger was also taken into custody for disorderly conduct/drunk in public.

Fraud / counterfeit / Identity theft Units responded to the 1200 block of Oakhaven around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, in reference to a fraud report. Unknown suspect(s) obtained the victim’s personal identifying information and attempted to transfer $78,000 from an investment account to another bank account.

Outstanding warrant Around 7:24 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, a traffic stop was conducted at Santa Anita and Virginia for an expired registration. A 41-year-old male Hispanic driver presented a fake California identification card, and record checks also indicated that he was an unlicensed driver and had four outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The man was taken into custody without incident.
