VEHICLE CATCHES FIRE

7/15/2021, one of our Chevy Suburbans assigned to the Fire Battalion Chief caught fire. The vehicle was in our maintenance shop for repairs. Our fleet mechanics replaced the radiator and air conditioner compressor and, while on a test drive, the mechanic heard a pop and the oil pressure indicator light came on. He pulled over and there was a fire under the hood. We will be fully investigating the incident. Nobody was hurt and the fire was quickly put out (due to the location, Monrovia Fire was the first on scene and was able to put it out by the time our fire crew arrived). While this vehicle was not slated for replacement for a few years, we have a Chevy Suburban scheduled to be replaced this Fiscal Year and we will decide the best way to proceed to keep our fleet fully operational.
