In December 2021, Segway Inc. purchase the property and 18,000sf building at 405 E. Santa Clara St. Segway is currently a subsidiary of Beijing-based company Ninebot, which acquired them in 2015. Segway Inc. is currently headquartered in Bedford, New Hampshire, but will be relocating their headquarters to Arcadia. Since being acquired by Ninebot, the company has transitioned away from their original Segway product to more contemporary electric powered mobility devices like electric scooters, mopeds, hoverboards, and the like (you can still get a Segway if you want to look like a Mall Cop, don’t worry). In March, they plan to host a press event in the parking lot of 405 E. Santa Clara St. to introduce themselves to the community and showcase their current suite of products. They are working with City staff on approval of the event details and are targeting midday on March 2nd or 8th for the event. Invites will be sent in the coming days. Following minor tenant improvement work and cosmetic updates to the building interior, the Arcadia HQ will open sometime later this year. In addition to Segway’s corporate office functions, the Arcadia site will include on-site product demonstration and display areas directed primarily towards wholesale buyers.
