The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 4 – 10, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 4

At 5:45 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 100 block of West Las Tunas Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 90-year-old female patient who suffered from a ground level fall with a significant head injury. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, oxygen therapy and dual intravenous lines established due to the severe trauma. The patient was transported to the Trauma Center at Huntington Memorial Hospital for additional care and treatment.

Monday, April 5

At 8:59 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was experiencing leg pain caused by a minor fall. The patient received basic life support at the scene including splinting and was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, April 6

At 5:53 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of East Foothill Blvd. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 58-year-old male patient who was experiencing general weakness after a syncope. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, April 7

At 3:45 p.m., Engine 106 and Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 responded under automatic aid to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue for a reported person down. Fire crews arrived to find a 23-year-old male patient who was experiencing seizure type activity. Paramedics began advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing and oxygen therapy. This patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further care and treatment.

Thursday, April 8

At 10:01 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of North First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 71-year- old male patient who was suffering from altered level of consciousness after having a seizure. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, April 9

At 7:30 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 59-year- old male patient who was suffering from behavioral emergency. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, April 10

At 5:43 p.m., Truck 105 responded to a reported fire alarm in the 11800 block of Clark Street. Firefighters arrived to the smell of burning food, and found a light haze throughout the structure upon entry. The cause of the smoke was located, and the hazard was removed from the property. The fire alarm was reset, and no damage occurred to the structure.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 303 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
