TAC-MED UNIT OFFICIALLY APPROVED

We received word this week that the County has certified our tactical assessment unit for the Fire Department, which will be known as TAC-MED 106. This program embeds paramedics within our police SWAT teams so that we have medical professionals on hand during these high-risk operations. The TAC-MED team regularly trains with the SWAT team and has weapons and other certifications to ensure their personal safety during deployments but will focus on providing immediate medical assistance to officers and citizens in active shooter and other acute situations.

We found that having such a unit ready would have been highly advantageous when we had our officer involved shooting two years ago. Chief Suen and his team have been working since then to establish and train this team. Kudos to all for advancing the readiness and safety of our public safety professionals!
